Why I loved hiking along the Ausable River

by Michele
(New Jersey)

One of my favorite hikes I can remember my father taking me on as a child was one that followed the Ausable River into a gorge which finished with a whitewater rafting trip. It was such a great family hike! The trail was an easy enough hike with plenty of rocks to climb on and great views to keep it exciting. To finish it off, some Class 2 and 3 rapids added excitement to an already thrilling adventure. I would suggest wearing comfortable walking shoes as there were plenty of rocks to climb, but they should also be good water shoes. Also, its nice to bring a snack to enjoy on a rock overlooking the gorge.
