| Whiteface Ski Resort Has Something For Every Skier!
The Whiteface Ski Resort is not your typical winter vacation destination.
What sets it apart? Well first of all, the Olympic village of Lake Placid is unique and surprisingly unspoiled.
Having played host to two separate Winter Olympics, in 1932 and 1980, it remains a winter sports mecca but manages to keep its quaint small-town atmosphere.
Secondly, the mountain itself - Whiteface. This mountain has the highest vertical drop in the east at 3400 feet. Beginners and experts alike will find trails to their liking at the Whiteface Ski Resort, and intermediates will enjoy even the steep trails, which are manageable for them and offer lots of opportunities to advance their skills.
Thirdly, there's just something about the Olympic atmosphere in this town! Did you know that there are more winter sports athletes that train and compete here than anyplace else in North America? The top notch facilities, both at the Whiteface Ski Resort and throughout Lake Placid, attract competitors from around the world in all of the Olympic sports, so throughout the winter season there are athletes in town of all ages and nationalities. Very exciting!
Add that to the fact that there is always top level competition going on in many events and you've got a recipe for a totally charged atmosphere! Here' s a sampling of some of the events coming in the winter of 2008 - 2009:
- January has World Cup freestyle skiing
- In February there are World Championships in luge, bobsled, and skeleton
- In March there's the NorAm Alpine Championships
These events at the Whiteface Ski Resort give the average person like you and me a chance to see Olympic level competition up close and personal at prices that aren't out of reach. If you get a passport at the ORDA store on Main St. you can get access to all the venues and activities going on at an even more reduced cost!
This winter experience really gives you the whole package, though, because there's so much to do here even if you're not into competitive sports. Take a walk around beautiful Mirror Lake - or take a dog sled ride across the lake!
The Whiteface Ski Resort really has it all, and if you love winter, come experience it in the place where winter history was made!
