| Snowmobile Vacations in Lake PlacidGreat Ways to Enjoy Winter!
Snowmobile vacations are a great way to enjoy the awesome winter weather that Mother Nature provides for Lake Placid and the Adirondacks. With hundreds of miles of groomed trails and the historical Winter Olympic atmosphere, Lake Placid is a mecca for snowmobilers of all ages.
Experiencing the forest in winter from the seat of a snowmobile is a treat not to be missed. It's not the quietest way to see the woods, but the scenery is gorgeous. There's just something about the woods in winter, with the snow blanketing the trees and the bright blue skies that we often get this time of year, that just makes you feel alive.
Depending on what you're looking for, different snowmobile vacations can offer you different types of enjoyment. Since there are so many miles of trails, some people like to really travel on their machines and spend days on the trails, going from hotel to hotel or town to town. On the flip side, some folks just like to get out in the woods for a few hours or maybe a whole day, stopping now and then to sip from a thermos of hot cocoa or coffee. Sometimes you can even barbecue on a small portable grill! It's a lot of fun to sit around in the woods and munch on barbecued hot dogs - somehow they taste different than in the summertime!
Snowmobiles in New York
This is one winter sport that pretty much anyone can do. In fact, you don't even need your own snowmobile! There are plenty of places in Lake Placid and the surrounding area to rent the machines. Or, if you feel that you're not up to piloting one yourself, take a snowmobile tour instead.
If you're interested in snowmobile vacations, but don't have your own machine, there are two rental places in Lake Placid that I can recommend. Lake Placid Snowmobiling Inc. is located right on Main St. in the village and has been rated #1 All Around Snowmobile Facility in the East. Here you can rent machines and ride them on 12 miles of trails through their Christmas Tree Farms. They also offer tours, with 1, 2, 3, or 4 hour rides.
Another place to rent snowmobiles is Snow Tours Inc. located at 21 Hillcrest Ave. in Lake Placid. They'll tailor rides to fit whatever ability level you're on, and here you can go on a more aggressive ride if you're up to it. They offer hour-long, half day and night tours. Any ride that's four hours or longer includes lunch or dinner!
As far as the trails go, they are professionally groomed and immaculately maintained. When you couple that with a typical winter's snowfall in the Adirondacks of up to 300" in a season, snowmobile vacations in the Lake Placid area are a snow lover's dream destination. Most of the trails bisect the small towns in the mountains, or at least have connections to them, so it's an easy matter to hop off your trail and cozy up to some home-cooking at a local restaurant or hole up in front of a roaring fire before you head out on the trails again.
Many of the best hotels and resorts in the area offer vacation packages, and often, if you can plan your snowmobile vacation for midweek you can find some incredible deals. If you'd like to check out some of these packages, click here to find package deals and hotel reviews.
Snowmobiling in the Adirondacks is a fun way to get outside, see the wilderness and maybe get rid of some winter blues. Enjoy your adventure, and be safe.
