| Adirondack Fall Foliage and the Annual Whiteface Oktoberfest
What a Great Combination!
The 17th annual Whiteface Oktoberfest and the gorgeous fall foliage in Lake Placid are a combination of enjoyment that's hard to beat.
If you've never been to an Oktoberfest before, then you're in for a real treat! There's an exciting festival atmosphere, and it's only heightened by the beautiful surroundings.
The Adirondacks are known for their glorious fall foliage - the "leaf-peepers" (as the fall foliage tourists are affectionately known) come from all over the world to take in the natural beauty.
So when you combine the fun festivities with the breathtaking scenery, you've got a recipe for a great day on Whiteface!
So What Exactly Is an Oktoberfest?
There are Oktoberfests held all over, actually. They're cultural festivals, usually featuring authentic Bavarian music, food, beer and dancing. Lots of great food and beer! They feature authentic German fare and a large variety of beer at the beer garden.
The festival at Whiteface also features pony rides, a petting zoo, and other rides and activities for the kids.
One of my favorite parts of the Oktoberfest at Whiteface is the craft fair.
The craft vendors showcase authentic crafts and some of the artisans are absolutely amazing.
Along with all of the other fun stuff, discounted gondola rides are included as part of your admission fee.
The music has to be authentic, too, of course. For the past few years, the popular choice for the band is Die Schlauberger, known as the Alpine Supergroup. This band is really well known for headlining Oktoberfests. They're energetic, and they love audience participation!
There's a full schedule on both days, filled with music and dance troupes. All of the performances are filled with authentic German, Bavarian and Austrian music, dancing and full audience participation. You'll have a hard time not moving to the music!
It's really a fun time. There's just something about being outside in the Adirondacks on a glorious early fall day. Just imagine walking around, checking out the crafts, eating great food and trying new beers, watching your happy kids on the rides, and listening to the great music, all while enjoying the view from one of the Adirondack High Peaks - what a great day!
