| Lake Placid travel information - Other ways to reach us
If you're from out of state, then driving here might not be for you. But luckily, even though the Adirondacks are wild and beautiful, Lake Placid travel is modern and convenient - though you still may have to drive a little!
Lake Placid Air Travel
There is air travel to the Adirondacks. There just may not be as many choices as you might be used to if you're from a city or do a lot of air travel. But there are some options available to you!
The Adirondack Regional Airport is the only airport to provide commercial air service to the Adirondack Park. It's 16 miles from Lake Placid, in Lake Clear (don't you love the names of these Adirondack lakes?) and from here the whole Adirondack Park region is available to you.
Lake Placid has its own airport which is about a mile south of the village on Route 73. The runway here is 4,200 feet long. From here, you can book Air Charter flights and scenic flights over the Adirondacks. If you have your own plane, you can tie it down here or have it repaired. The number is 518-523-2473.
What about major airports to fly into? Albany, NY, Burlington, VT, and Montreal, Quebec, Canada are all within 2 1/2 hours drive of the Lake Placid area. All three of these airports are serviced by the major airlines and all have car rentals available.
How About Rail Service?
Amtrak Railways runs between New York City and Montreal, Quebec, Canada with a stop in Westport, NY. This is about 40 miles from Lake Placid.
Bus Service
Adirondack Trailways operates bus service between Lake Placid, Albany, and New York City.
Are Car Rentals Available?
Definitely. Hertz and Enterprise car rentals are available at the Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear. In Westport, where the Adirondack Trailways bus service connects, you can choose Rent-A-Wreck rental cars.
For car rentals, be prepared to put some miles on them - nothing is "close by" in the Adirondacks!
Once you're actually in Lake Placid, Rick's Taxi (518-523-4741) will provide you with prompt, friendly service. There's even a limousine service, Majestic Limousine,(518-873-6590) for those very special occasions.
Of course, Lake Placid is a small village. One of the great joys is simply walking around it to really appreciate the ambiance!
