| The Lake Placid Lodge A Sumptuous Lake-Side Retreat
The Lake Placid Lodge was destroyed by fire on December 15, 2005. But this great Adirondack hotel will be rebuilt - in fact, the groundbreaking was
in March of 2007 and the Lodge is expected to reopen in full capacity in January of 2008.
In the meantime, though, you can still experience
the luxury and pampering of this 5-star resort and spa. They currently have 11 cabins available, though the word "cabin" certainly doesn't do
these accommodations justice!
What are the cabins like?
The Lake Placid Lodge is more secluded than some of the other resorts in Lake Placid, so if "getting away from it all" sounds like your idea of a perfect vacation, then this place may be just what you're looking for. The cabins are all totally private and were built in the 1920's, right on the edge of the lake. They've all been totally renovated and are incredibly beautiful. The picture to your left was taken before the devastating fire of 2005.
Featuring king or queen size featherbeds, wet bars, sitting areas, and large stone fireplaces, these cabins just surround you in elegance and rustic style. As you'd imagine, the bathrooms are top-of-the-line luxurious, with soaking tubs and large separate showers. All the cabins offer incredible views of the lake and surrounding Adirondack mountains through large picture windows.
As far as dining goes, the main restaurant was in the main lodge building that burned. But they've opened the Lakeside Bistro in the meantime, which is a wonderfully intimate 2-room cabin that's been renovated. Dinner is served there nightly (one choice only for now) and breakfast is included with your room reservation. They also serve light lunches in the summer.
What else makes the Lake Placid Lodge Special?
Since the Lake Placid Lodge is so wonderfully intimate and romantic, it's the perfect place to plan a honeymoon, wedding, anniversary or even a marriage proposal! The Staff here will help you with all the details and any special set-up or requirements you might have if you'd like to "pop the question" here. Sigh ... who could resist romance in a setting like this?
If you're on your honeymoon, you can't get much more private and "off in your own little world" than here. You can row a canoe out to a private island, and you'll have it all to yourselves. The chef will even prepare a gourmet picnic for you to enjoy.
All of the outdoor activities that Lake Placid is known for are of course right outside the front door. Golf, hiking, skiing, horseback riding, and all of the activities in the Olympic village and Whiteface Mountain are available at any time, so you can be as active (or lazy!) as you want to be.
What about Spa Services?
I'm not sure exactly what it is that makes being pampered in a spa seem so natural in a location like this, but the spa services at the Lake Placd Lodge are top-notch and totally luxurious. You can book a facial, manicure, pedicure, or total body treatment and be pampered and de-stressed in the privacy of your own cabin. They also offer several different types of massages and a special hiker's foot massage - just perfect at the end of a long day or two out on the trails. Somehow, pampering and luxurious surroundings just seem to go hand-in-hand!
Because there are only 11 cabins available at this point in time, space can be limited, so if you're interested in reserving a cabin at the Lake Placid Lodge, call several months in advance so you won't be disappointed.
Oh, and make sure to tell them that Debbie from Lake Placid Area Guide sent you! Enjoy your get-away!
