Hiking with my dog

I’ve been a faithful hiker for many years now – I started hiking back when I was a young child, going on walking holidays with my parents Betty and Chuck. We used to spend many a summer vacation around Lake Placid and I always particularly loved Whiteface Mountain.

Although Whiteface Mountain is a little outside the Lake Placid area it’s easy to get to and the walking is superb. We always stayed in the town of Wilmington which is not far away.

Nowadays I travel there from time to time with my dog. Although I never married, my dog is my greatest companion and always accompanies me on my walking adventures. He loves the fresh mountain air and is great to talk to however hard the climb or whatever the weather.

When we stay in Wilmington now we always stay at the Ledge Rock Hotel – well, I stay in the hotel and my Dog, Wilbur, sleeps in the car. The hotel has large comfortable rooms and a fantastic view of Whiteface Mountain. I love the hotel because you can get rooms with their own kitchenette and microwave oven so you are really self sufficient and don’t have to pay to eat out all the time (which can get real pricey).

One of my most favourite places to eat in Wilmington is the Hungry Trout restaurant – the food is great and the setting is real authentic. I always feel very relaxed eating there and the trout is super fresh and always delicious. The duck ravioli is also one of their best dishes and the prices are reasonable.
