| The Flaming Leaves Festival is a Great Way to Celebrate Fall!
The Flaming Leaves Festival in Lake Placid is one of those totally unique, homegrown type of events that make
life so interesting. Where else could you combine blues, beer, a craft fair, and Olympic ski-jumping competition
all in the same place? Lake Placid manages to do it, all the while treating you to some of the most breathtaking views
in all of the Adirondacks.
Held this year on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12, the Flaming Leaves Festival promises to be a great time, as always.
This is a wonderful celebration of the beautiful fall foliage that is usually at its peak during this time of year.
The Flaming Leaves Festival is held at the MacKenzie-Intervale SKi Jumping Complex, site of the 1980 Winter Olympics ski-jumping events. Athletes will zip down the 120-meter ski jump, landing on the field below. The great part about this is that, whether you watch from the Sky Deck at the top of the tower, or on solid ground below, you'll have a bird's-eye view of the action. There really isn't a "bad" spot to be.
Access to the competition is good throughout the whole complex. There's a gondola that runs from the base lodge all the way up to the ski jump tower. If you have mobility issues, though, I'd recommend driving up to the tower and taking the elevator that goes to the lower observation deck. Either way, the view from the top is absolutely amazing ... check out the picture to see for yourself!
Along with the ski-jumping competition, the Flaming Leaves Festival also features a large craft fair, live blues concerts on both days of the Festival, and really good BBQ. Plus, there's beer from some of the fantastic local microbreweries. There are activities and pony rides for the kids, along with an inflatable 60-foot obstacle course! So there's really something for everyone. It's a fun way to spend a beautiful fall weekend in Lake Placid.
