Adirondack rustic furniture - when you see that phrase what do you picture in your mind?
Bear rugs? Huge stone fireplaces and great log beams? Wildlife prints? Furniture made with birch bark and twigs?
If you pictured any of those in your mind, you're right. Adirondack style furniture is all that and more. Nothing evokes the mountains like a living room or bedroom tastefully decorated in Adirondack style.
But what is "Adirondack style" exactly? That's a good question - unfortunately there isn't a really good answer! For most people, they know it when they see it.
What I can tell you is that Adirondack style is inspired by nature - by the very rocks, trees, stones and wildlife that surround us here in the beautiful Adirondack mountains. It's a relaxed style, with low-level lighting and a comfortable ambience, and is a part of our heritage that we Adirondackers really treasure.
Adirondack Style Furniture
Our pioneering ancestors were great at being able to use the materials at hand to meet their needs - after all, their lives depended on it. Out of necessity, they built their furniture out of twigs, branches, birch bark and even deer antlers. Today we recognize the natural beauty of furnishings made out of natural materials. Incorporating them into our homes makes us feel closer to nature.
Imagine settling in for your night's sleep in a set of beautifully rustic sheets, covered with some of our loved Adirondack wildlife. You click off the metal bear lamp on your Adirondack hickory nightstand and drift off to dreamland.
