Adirondack Chair Plans for the Do-It-Yourselfer
Do you take pride in working with your hands and being self-sufficient? Building your own outdoor furniture with Adirondack chair plans is a terrific way to get in there and produce something on your own that you can use and enjoy for years to come.
If you're really talented and skilled in woodworking and building, you can probably come up with your own Adirondack chair design. There isn't really a lot of room for uniqueness, though, as it has to have certain characteristics to be an Adirondack chair.
These comfortable outdoor chairs are truly an Adirondack icon. They're immediately recognizable, with their wide arm rests, slanted sides, and a deep angle on the back rest. Some Adirondack chair patterns call for having the back of the chair straight, with no curve. But, as a woman whose bottom has graced many an Adirondack chair in her time, I prefer the back to have a slight curvature so that it cradles the back. We Adirondackers really pay attention to detail!
Free Adirondack Chair Plans
Most Adirondack chair plans are not hard to follow, especially if you're familiar with woodworking. You can use just about any kind of wood that you want to, but you may want to consider how well the wood resists water damage. Cedar is a good wood to use because it's naturally resistant to rot. Pine is always good to use because it's soft and easy to work with. It'll look very rustic because it dents easily.
The following plans are all free and available for immediate download. Most of them are in in .pdf format, so if you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can get if free here.
