| Lake Placid is Our Family's Favorite Adirondack Destination!
What is it about Lake Placid that makes it so special? I hardly know where to start to answer that question because this charming village has so many wonderful features.
Probably the first thing you notice as you enter the village is the beauty of the setting. It's absolutely breathtaking. The beauty of the lake and the surrounding Adirondack mountains will stop you in your tracks.
Maybe it's the clean, crisp mountain air that seems to fill up your lungs and has that only-in-the-mountains woodsy scent - if only they could bottle that air!
It could be the serene tranquility that you'll feel as you gaze out over the lake. The quiet peacefulness is very apparent. Then you realize why it's so quiet ... there are no motors on the lake! Yes, it's true. All you'll see (and hear!) are sailboats, paddleboats, kayaks and canoes. Talk about peace and quiet.
But this mountain village isn't only a breathtaking slice of nature. It's an historic Olympic Village that's been host to the Winter Olympics not once, but twice, in 1932 and again in 1980. It's a winter sports enthusiast's dream, with just about every winter sport known to man.
And it hosts world-class sporting events every year, like the Ironman Triathlon, International Horse Shows (for Olympic qualification), and the Great Outdoor Games.
Oh, and did I mention the shopping and eating? Those are two of my personal favorites!
This quaint village is a cultural center of the Adirondack mountains as well, hosting the Lake Placid Film Festival every year. In the summer, the Lake Placid Sinfonietta plays in the bandshell right near the lake, in the heart of the Village. World class music in the heart of the Adirondacks.
